The Leonard Cheshire Disability Global Alliance

The Leonard Cheshire Disability Global Alliance is an alliance of over 250 disability and development organisations in 55 countries. Currently 45 countries have signed up to the Alliance and others are likely to sign up soon. The Alliance members run autonomous projects, services and campaigns and work to support disabled people and their right to participate fully in society. 
Cheshire Canada is a member of the Global Alliance and part of the Americas Region as outlined below.
 

The Mission

The Cheshire Global Alliance exists to change attitudes towards disability around the world and foster mutual support amongst the members. 
 
 
 
The Purpose
 
One of the main aims of the Alliance is to share experiences and learn lessons to promote best practice and policy on disability and related issues globally. The Alliance will play an active role in supporting national and international campaigning.The Alliance will facilitate international links and exchange programmes amongst disabled people globally. 
 
The Alliance Projects

Currently two very new and exciting projects are being implemented as part of the Cheshire Global Alliance and include the Young Voices Project on UN Convention and the Cheshire Internships project (CHIIPS).

  • Young Voices Project
    Following the success of the Young Voices pilot project, the second phase of the project is being implemented in 13 countries globally. The programme aims to build leadership amd promote active engagement of young disabled people in advocacy and campaigning. The project focuses on building the capacity of young disabled people to work with their governments for the ratification and implementation of the new UN Convention on people with disabilities.   • CHIIPS
    The Cheshire International Internship Programmes(CHIIPS) aim to foster international understanding of disability and development among young disabled people, through the provision of internship placements in Leonard Cheshire Disability services, projects and offices across the world.
