This wheelchair-accessible home was established in 1991 in Port Coquitlam as a permanent living facility. It is a four bedroom, single-level house close to Coquitlam centre providing complex care for medically challenged adults who are recovering from a brain injury. While the program offers long term support for individuals with severe brain injuries, the focus is on health and leisure. The program is supported by various therapists who provide in-house support including a registered nurse, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, dysphasia consultant, art therapist, recreation therapist and a registered dietary nutritionist. An on-call physician is available in the neighbourhood and a speech-language pathologist are also available on a consulting basis. The clients participate in a day program in which they access community resources. A recreation therapist oversees the recreation program and day program. In house, they participate in various cognitive and physical programs based on personal choice such as learning to use communication devices, range of motion, reading and watching movies, music therapy, oral taste stimulation programs, current events, computer skills development, having friends and family visits, and gardening. In the community the residents enjoy swimming weekly, attending art groups, karaoke, adapted sailing, walking in the neighbourhood and parks, and various social outings.
